About the Ranch

A slower, more peaceful time long forgotten.

Our Story

A Hideaway in the Black Hills

Tucked into the pine-scented hills just outside of Hill City, Newton Fork Ranch began with a simple idea: to give travelers a place to truly leave the world behind. No televisions buzzing in the corner. No telephones demanding attention. Just the sound of wind through the ponderosas and the soft tread of deer along the meadow's edge.

We are a third-generation property in the beautiful and pristine Black Hills of South Dakota. Situated on Deerfield Road, the ranch is a series of old mining claims originally owned in the late 1800s by the Harney Peak Tin Mining Company of New York and London, England. Time truly stands still here. Your mind can wander back to an era before South Dakota was a state and this property was located in Dakota Territory.

Generations of families, writers, hikers, and dreamers have wandered our property since. They come for the peace and the proximity to the Black Hills' greatest treasures — and they come back, year after year, for the feeling.

Our cabins are well-appointed and fully-furnished, designed to feel less like accommodations and more like the home you've been quietly missing. Each one opens onto woods or meadow, and each one offers private access to the 109-mile Mickelson Trail running through a corner of the ranch.

From Our Guests
It's unbelievable! How can some place like this exist without everyone knowing about it? The moment we pulled in we knew this was definitely a place we will be coming to as often as humanly possible. I have heard for years of this being ‘God's Country.’ You have done such a wonderful job complementing that fact. What a humbling experience. I feel like we've been deprived up ‘til now.
